The Interviews: Master of Nutrition with Louise Bennion

October 28, 2020

Hi, my name’s Louise! Some people know me as Loutritionist and I’ve just graduated with an MSc in Nutrition with Obesity and Weight Management (ANutr status pending) after having graduated with a BSc degree from Sheffield Hallam.

How did you get into nutrition?

With a passion for food science and health, I decided to study food at A Level and went on to study Food and Nutrition at Sheffield Hallam! After my 2nd year, I did an industrial placement year at Pizza Hut UK & Europe where one of my main roles as the Quality Assurance Assistant was to update the nutrition booklets and the UK nutrition policy. This made me want to study nutrition further at MSc level after finishing my undergrad degree to become a nutritionist!

What were the best and worst things about studying for a masters in nutrition?

One of the best things was being able to practice nutrition clinics using real clients. We learn the skills of dietary analysis and anthropometric assessments while building our confidence and professionalism as a practitioner! The worst things? The sciencey processes are deffo the worst for me! Things like carb metabolism and digestion just blew my mind and took a LOT of revision 😅

What is your current role and what does it involve?

I currently work as a home visit support worker (carer) in Sheffield. A stepping stone job before I get something more nutrition related, I visit the elderly and disabled to provide personal care, nutrition and hydration and companionship.

What are your top tips for running a successful instagram page?

Engagement is key!! Don’t be afraid to promote your own work. This may be through instagram, word of mouth or emailing people to let them know what you’re up to!

What are your goals and dreams for the future?

I’d love to work as a nutritionist within the food industry! Helping to develop healthier products whilst promoting the importance of healthy eating to the public.

Thanks so much for your top tips and tricks, Lou!

I hope you’re enjoying the interviews so far! Stay tuned for another fab one on Sunday!

Emma x
