There’s nothing better than a cosy night in during the winter months. With all the parties, the visits and the late night shopping, sometimes you just want a good old cosy night in. No make up. No fancy clothes. Just slippers, pjs and a few candles and lights, don’t you agree? I especially love having cosy nights in – I work evenings and on my evenings off, I’m usually out, so my evenings in are a well looked forward to treat!
So, the recipe for my perfect night in? If you’re looking for some inspiration for loved ones, friends or even just a night in on ya ones, you’ve come to the right place. It’s time to be the hostess with the mostess (or host with the most, sorry fellas).
Films and TV
I am all for reading and doing things that don’t involve TV, but there is nothing better than getting cosy on the sofa with a cheesy Christmas film, is there? Sun setting (or set, I mean it’s probably pitch black by 3 now), fairy lights on and a good old Christmas cracker. My fave films to get me in the mood are Bridget Jones (right I know it’s not technically Christmas but…), Love Actually, The Holiday, Miracle on 34th Street, Elf, The Santa Clause, Home Alone and the most important part of Christmas… the Gavin and Stacey Christmas Special.
Cheese and Wine
Yes then, move over chocolate, it’s all about the cheese board this Christmas time! Make a cheese board for sharing or just for you. Serve with red white (my favourites and Pinot noir and Shiraz types) or your favourite Christmas tipple! Remember, although cheese boards are a naughty treat, enjoying them for Christmas occasions such as an extra special night in are perfect for them! As long as you don’t eat them frequently and your diet is full of fresh and healthy foods, don’t worry about the calories!
My top cheeses to try are Brie, chilli cheddar, blue Stilton, Wensleydale with apricots and a classic mature cheddar. Serve with freshly baked bread, black pepper crackers, fruit chutney, olives, grapes and a selection of fresh cured meats for your perfect winning cheeseboard. Of course, personalise with your board based on your own preferences and budget!
Make it cosy!
I don’t know about you, but it isn’t a cosy night in without a blanket (or two, or four…). I’m a sucker for a blanket and you will not find me in the house without one. Despite my uni sofa being quite small, we’ve made it cosy by covering it with a soft blanket (from Matalan, ofc) and lots of pillows. Blankets and throws are soooo cheap and soft and WARM – you can get them from places such as Matalan, Primark, H&M Home and even Wilkos for such reasonable prices. Wear your comfiest clothes too and snuggle up in front of the TV.
Even More Snacks
Did you check out yesterday’s Gingerbread recipe? If not, go get baking! There’s nothing better than an evening in that baking some delicious snacks. If you’re not a cheeseboard type of hooman and you’ve got little ones around, download some festive recipes and get baking! And don’t hold back on the glitter…. all about the glitter this Christmas.
Have a super cosy night in!
